I graduated with a Bachelor of
Science in Biology from DeSales University with a minor in French studies.
During my senior year at DeSales University, I was part of a research team
which focused on testing the inhibition of human breast cancer cell growth in
direct response to increasing doses of a potential chemotherapeutic agent. I received
the DeSales University Natural Science Department’s Academic Excellence In
Biology Research award for this project
that year. Tommy Pogash, our Vice President of Sales and
advanced microscopy specialist, graduated from DeSales University with me and
was also my research partner!
Upon graduation, I started my
career as a Laboratory Technician at Connective Tissue Gene Tests, a molecular
diagnostic laboratory specializing in inherited genetic disorders. My
responsibilities at CTGT included testing and analyzing patient data generated by DNA sequencing, Comparative Genomic Hybridization and Next
Generation sequencing. After a few years at CTGT, I transitioned to a
laboratory assistant role for the Biology department at DeSales University and
enjoyed working in academia for my Alma Mater.
I later returned to
a clinical lab setting as a Cytogenetics Laboratory Technician at Health
Network Laboratories. Although I was the lead
technician for Comparative Genomic Hybridization testing, my role in the Cytogenetics Department also heavily involved
harvesting and preparing metaphase chromosome slides for Cytogenetic analysis.
This role truly expanded my microscopy experience, as it required obtaining
white blood cell counts using 10x magnification and a hemocytometer for cell
culturing; as well as preparing and staining
metaphase chromosome slides with microscopic analysis for quality control.
After many years in a laboratory
setting, I decided to hang up my lab coat and transition into my current
position here at Hitech Instruments as a ZEISS Microscopy Account Manager. I am
honored and excited to be part of an extensively experienced team of
microscopists. I look forward to
connecting with all of you here in Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey and assisting you in your microscopy and imaging needs.
Fun facts about me: I currently reside in Allentown, PA and enjoy
spending my free time playing tennis, hiking and trail biking.
